Moses Kimchi (Ramach) was a medieval Provençal Hebrew grammarian, lexicographer, and biblical exegete who flourished in Narbonne during the late twelfth century. He came from the distinguished Kimchi family of scholars and grammarians; his father Joseph Kimchi was also renowned for linguistic work, and his brothers David (Radak) and Joseph became major biblical commentators. Moses authored the Mahalach ("Path"), an important Hebrew grammar that systematized the rules of the language and influenced subsequent grammatical study. He was deeply engaged in the intellectual efflorescence of Provençal Jewry and contributed significantly to the medieval Jewish effort to understand Hebrew grammar on rational, scientific principles. Though less celebrated than his brothers, he left a lasting mark on medieval Hebrew linguistic scholarship.
