The Kaliver Rebbe
1923 CE–2019 CE · Modern · Jerusalem
Known as the Kaliver Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Taub was a Chasidic rebbe whose leadership centered on Holocaust remembrance and outreach. A survivor of Auschwitz and other camps, he later rebuilt his court in the United States and then in Jerusalem, where he became identified with public campaigns to say Shema and remember the victims of the Shoah. His writings and public addresses, including collections of derashot and memories of the camps, framed his Chasidus around faith, song, and testimony after destruction.
